JANET ROSE

Interpreter of sights, scenes and situations

I have always stitched and enjoyed handling textiles since learning to sew with my maternal grandmother. I followed this love of stitch through school and college, studying needlework and embroidery subjects, through to making clothes and home furnishings, developing creative work with children during my teaching career and it has been rekindled since retirement by taking City & Guilds courses in Hand and Machine Embroidery and Textile Surface Decoration.

I am a member of Leamington Creative Stitchers and also belong to a Leamington based textile group called TextilePlus.  I joined Eclectica Textile Artists in 2015 to further my exhibiting experience and also attend the Stitch Textile Artists group which is mentored by Sian Martin and meets twice a year.

I enjoy creating textured surfaces using a variety of fabrics and materials, including wool and silk fibres, papers, metal and mixed media, combining them with print, machine stitching techniques and hand embellishment. In recent work I have incorporated photographic imagery, printing on to fabric using my inkjet printer. I am now experimenting with Thermofax screens and Gellipad printing.  My inspiration comes from many sources including travels, family history and nature. I often use my photographic images as starting points and enjoy researching my themes.
